Hays Payroll Salary Guide, March 2016


The Canadian Payroll Association applauds Hays Canada for its continued research into payroll salary trends as outlined in the 2016 Payroll Salary Guide.

Payroll remains mission-critical to organizations. Canada’s 1.5 million employers rely on payroll practitioners for the timely and accurate payment of $901 billion in wages and benefits, $305 billion in statutory remittances to the federal and provincial governments and $169 billion in health and retirement benefits, while complying with more than 200 federal and provincial regulatory requirements.

Organizations continue to seek and value the expertise of Canadian Payroll Association members to be compliant and contribute to their goals. The results of the Hays Canada survey are encouraging, as they continue to showcase the growing value of certified payroll professionals in today’s competitive marketplace. This value is reflected in the growing salaries of payroll professionals who hold Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) certifications.

Additionally, PCP Candidates (those certification-holders who have met the Canadian Payroll Association’s rigorous educational requirements and are working to build their payroll compliance experience) are increasingly in demand for entry-level payroll jobs. Overall, the salaries of our certification holders are consistently higher than their non-certified peers, and these professionals tend to have more compliance responsibilities.

As the Hays Canada survey indicates, employers are looking for payroll candidates with education, experience and certification. The Canadian Payroll’s Association’s certification programs are creating “job-ready” candidates to fulfil these employer needs.
