Statement of Wages Filed with CNESST

The CNESST needs to know the amount of wages paid by employers in order to calculate the insurance premium they must pay. For this purpose, every employer must file a Statement of Wages in March of every year. During this training session, participants will learn to declare only what they must.

Does March 15 mean anything to you? This is the date by which you must file your Statement of Wages with the CNESST. The CNESST will use the information in this document to calculate your annual premium. This means it is vital to complete this form correctly because it affects your bill. The document may raise a number of questions.
 

The CNESST needs two items of information in order to calculate a company's annual premium: its contribution rate and the amount of wages paid to employees.

The contribution rate is calculated annually by the CNESST based on data it holds on the company.

The amount of wages paid must be supplied by the employer. This is why every year the CNESST sends out the Statement of Wages form, which businesses must complete and return by March 15.

Although this form is generally simple to complete for regular employees, a number of questions may arise when you come to enter the figures:

  • Must the total amount paid as wages be included?
  • What do I do if I have several classification units or exception units?
  • In what cases must I declare my independent operators?
  • Can I exclude directors?
  • Is it advantageous to take out Personal Coverage?
  • What do I do with my "rented" employees?
  • Must I insure my volunteers?
  • In what circumstances can I modify my statement?It is in the company's interest to make sure its statement of wages is completed correctly, because the CNESST may during its auditing operations correct the data supplied and claim any amounts due from the company (with interest).

Target audience
This training session is aimed at those who have to complete the Statement of Wages form or who are interested in issues concerning the calculation of premiums.

Educational method
During this training session, the trainer reviews the form and content of the Statement of Wages, adding information taken from CNESST documents, court decisions, etc. To get the maximum benefit from this training session, participants are encouraged to prepare their questions in advance.

Dress code is business casual. Please dress in layers to accommodate temperature fluctuations.

CANCELLATIONS OR SEMINAR TRANSFER: Requests must be received in writing at least five (5) business days prior to the seminar date. Please note a cancellation fee or transfer fee in the amount of $50 plus applicable taxes per day/per registrant for all sessions cancelled or transferred will apply. Cancellation or transfer requests received less than 5 business days prior to the seminar date are not eligible for transfer or refund.
