Prince Edward Island Employment Standards

As part of Prince Edward Island’s Employment Standards Comprehensive Review, the Institute made recommendations to simplify and streamline certain employment standards in the province. These recommendations include:

  1. Limiting the amount of compassionate care leave intervals to 1 or 2.
  2. Legislating the averaging of hours.
  3. Lengthening the maximum layoff period before termination.
  4. Allowing employers to direct wages to their Minister or Director of Labour/Employment Standards when a terminated employee cannot be located.
  5. Having clear legislation on travel time
  6. Allowing employers to enter into statutory holiday substitution agreements without having to receive approval from director of Labour standards.
  7. Allowing deduction of overpayments of salary and vacation without employee’s written consent.
