Dawn Irmscher, CPHR, CPA, PLP
As Director, Payroll at the University of British Columbia, Dawn has in-depth experience in payroll operations and technology. By identifying key trends and utilizing payroll analytics, she has worked on robotic automation projects, lean six sigma, and benchmarking.
During her professional career, Dawn has developed a solid track record as a speaker and educator, notably through her roles with the University of Toronto as an Accounting Instructor, and with the National Payroll Institute as a Professional Development Seminar Facilitator and Designation Instructor.
In addition to holding the Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) with NPI, Dawn also holds the Chartered Professional in Human Resources Designation (CPHR), and the Chartered Professional Accounting: Certified Management Accounting Designation (CPA, CMA).
Brian Burgess, PLP
As Finance Manager with the Victoria Division of Family Practice, Brian is an accomplished professional with over 25 years of comprehensive experience in payroll, accounting, and finance. He has worked in a variety of industries including not-for-profit, public accounting and law firms. He holds a Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) designation with the National Payroll Institute (NPI). Brian is also a facilitator for the NPI’s professional development seminars, and has taught the PCP program at Camosun College, Douglas College, and Vancouver Island University.
Brian has been serving on the Board of Directors of the NPI since 2020 and is currently the Vice-Chair.
Heather Kerr, CPHR, SHRM
Heather began her HR Career in payroll in 2008, and has built upon those compensation fundamentals over the last 15 years. She holds her Bachelor of Management degree with a major in Human Resources & Labour Relations, her Chartered Professional in Human resources (CPHR) in Alberta, and SHRM Senior Certified Professional in the United States, she has also held her Payroll Compliance Practitioner certification in Canada, and is a certified DISC personality Facilitator. She has enjoyed several roles within the HR industry of increasing responsibility, serving organizations that have been both private and publicly traded and both union and non-unionized environments. She is currently the Manager, Safety and Human Resources at Structural Truss Systems / Forma Steel. Heather believes that pay is a fundamental part of the employment framework, and without strong compensation knowledge and streamlined payroll functions, the employee experience and overall service HR can provide will be significantly impaired.
