Everyone enjoys taking vacation; being able to recharge both body and mind is critical to employee wellness and productivity. For payroll professionals who have to deal with the legislated requirements tied to time off, however, vacations can be a source of anxiety.
That’s why the National Payroll Institute is hosting an informative webinar series that explores the legislative basics tied to creating a well-documented vacation policy. It will help you determine whether your organization’s plan meets or exceeds what’s required and will answer any questions you have about administering vacation leave and pay.

Part 2: Tuesday, May 13, 2025 - 1 to 2:00 p.m. ET
The concept of unlimited vacation time is relatively new. Organizations looking to adopt this model must ask themselves a few questions:
- How do you ensure employees are not exaggerating?
- How would you handle vacation owed upon termination?
- Are other Employment Standards requirements still respected?

Part 1
This session covers the basics of federal, provincial and territorial legislation related to vacation time and vacation pay as well as identifying:
- Greater benefits and how to validate if your policy is clear and compliant.
- Whether variable compensation (bonuses or commission) can be inclusive of vacation pay.
- Validating your vacation policy with a checklist.
Part 2
After completing this webinar, you will be able to:
- Identify what Unlimited Vacation is and know the difference between perception versus reality.
- Review the implications of setting up an unlimited vacation policy to ensure the Employment Standards minimum.
- Identify pros and cons of an unlimited vacation policy.
- Review case study examples of an unlimited vacation policy.
